Proud to be a Pakistani.

I saw this email floating on a google group and would like to share writer’s feeling with all of you.

After a 60 year struggle it seems to be a little battle worn and tired and its now time for true Pakistanis like us, to stand up and give our nation a helping hand. It does not ask for much, just simply your love for the nation and maybe a good ruler at the helm of the ship and the courage to stand up and boldly say, I LOVE PAKISTAN very soon we shall see our efforts bear fruit and the new rising sun will take Pakistan into the skies like never before …..”

ISLAMABAD: The 70th Pakistan Day is being celebrated across the country with a renewed pledge to make the Islamic republic a progressive, dynamic and modern Muslim welfare state in accordance with the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Dr Alama Muhammad Iqbal.

The day dawned with special prayers in mosques and Imambargahs for unity, integrity and prosperity of the country.

The day is celebrated each year with great national zeal to mark the adoption of historic Resolution by the Muslim League at Minto Park now called Iqbal Park, where Minar-e-Pakistan was built in Lahore, held under the chairmanship of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah to create separate homeland for the  Muslims, Pakistan, on March 23, 1940. Seven years after, Pakistan came into being on 14th August 1947.

The government has announced a public holiday on March 23 and all government offices, educational institutions will remain close.

To mark the day a 31-guns salute at sunrise at Rawalpindi and 21-guns salute at all the Provincial Capitals were honor the day; while Pakistani Flag was hoisted on principal public and private buildings throughout the country including Pakistan Missions abroad.

The important public and private buildings are being illuminated while Pakistan flag is being hoisted on major government buildings.

Seminars, symposia and cultural shows would be held in major cities and towns to highlight the importance of the day. Declamation contests and walks would also be held to highlight importance of the day.

Award giving ceremonies to people of different walks of life for distinctions in their respective fields will be held at the President House in which Sitara-e-Imtiaz, President’s Award for Pride of Performance and Tamgha-e-Imtiaz will be bestowed to the selected citizens.

Special transmissions will be the main feature of the day as the public and private radio and television channels broadcast and telecast special programmes on the day wherein well-known workers of Tehrik-i-Pakistan recall the significant features of the Pakistan movement, while the newspapers also publish supplements to honour the day.

The Sindh Governor, Dr. Ishrat ul Ebad Khan, Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, along with the provincial cabinet will laid floral wreath at the mausoleum of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

The representatives of the three services are also scheduled to lay floral wreaths at the Mazar of the Quaid.
